Bailos

History

• Waterdeep, known as the City of Splendors and the Jewel of the North, was a vast, metropolis of a city, known for its domination of the western Faerun as the top city of trade, its streets lined with shops and stalls, merchants wondering to pedal their wares, a great many eager for the chance to swindle those with guards dropped by the sprawling landscape and foreign wares.
  
  It is in this city that Bailos was born and raised. He grew up learning the twists and turns of the alleys, as well as schooling. He took to knowledge eagerly, always fighting to learn one more fact, whether from books or the experiences of the streets. At a young age he began to learn magic in secret, his family ones who feared such power, viewing those who controlled the elements as evil and troublemakers.
  
  The vast amount of trade in the city allowed for Bailos to meet many of the races that traveled the land. In this way he learned a great many languages, making friends and acquaintances among many of the races. His knowledge of magic only increased during his time in the company of human and elven wizards. He began to be careless with his magic, practicing while his parents were close, until one day he was caught and banished from his home.
  
  He stayed near the bazaar for some time after that, using his magic to entertain both residents of Calimport and travelers alike, earning him some gold to pay for room and board at a local tavern, The Sandy Scarab. A wizard of some renown happened by a performance Bailos was putting on one day, and watched, surprised by his agile hands and knowledge of magic, and took him under his wing as an apprentice. It was under this wizard's wing that Bailos learned much of his magic, adeptly learning much of spells and rituals.
  
  It was also under this wizard's wing that a local Pasha learned of the young wizard, and worked quickly to secure him as an asset. The Pasha had Bailos' master killed, and moved fast to secure him under the Pasha's control. Bailos worked for him for the next ten years, doing everything from assassinations to providing protection for important allies of the Pasha. During the ten, long years, however, Bailos also worked to find out the killer of his master, and upon finding out the Pasha was behind it, proceeded to wreak havoc on his palace, killing many of those under the Pasha's empoly, as well as the Pasha, leaving the palace burning in the dark night. That same night Bailos left Calimport, riding West to find a new life for himself.
